City Sounds Des Moines Public Piano Project returns for its 4th year in 2017

(Des Moines, IA) – The day-long City Sounds Season Opener celebration, presented by MIDWESTIX,  will be held Saturday May 20th, 2017, with free mini-concerts at all 10 pianos installed in the Des Moines metro area. The day concludes with a grand finale after-party event featuring rock artist Dave Zollo & The Body Electric and a silent auction featuring art crafted from the 2016 public pianos. Tickets for the after-party are on sale now at MIDWESTIX.com and have a name-your-own-price cost.

The public is encouraged to travel to each of the 10 public piano locations on May 20 and experience as many of the concerts as possible. “This year, we decided to go big and provide a concert at each piano,"  said Kathryn Dickel, City Sounds Board Chair. "We have an incredibly gifted talent pool in Des Moines, and we are excited to feature these performing artists on the vibrant pianos, each painted by a local visual artist.”

The Season Opener will be capped off with an 8:30 p.m. after-party concert event at The Conservatory, a new East Village hotspot located at 315 E. 5th Street in Downtown Des Moines. The after-party includes a silent auction consisting of deconstructed piano art from last season’s pianos, a set by piano troubadour Dave Zollo and the Body Electric, as well as food by Ted’s Coney Island and beer from Peace Tree. Tickets for the after-party concert event are available at MIDWESTIX.COM . Attendees can name their own ticket price and all proceeds benefit City Sounds.
