2015 ARTISTS
City Sounds is proud to be a supporter of local art and local artists. Here are the talented creators who designed pianos for the 2015 season.
Amy Putney-Koenig
Amy has been in Des Moines all her amazing life. She does bright, funky paintings and murals like Big Tomato, Power Life Yoga, Fresh Cafe, etc. She creates illustrations, prints and collage work. She has been an Art Director for Sticks Object Art and Furniture for 21 years. I work fast with contour lines and bold color with a sassy sense of humor and cool symbolism.
Van Holmgren
Van Holmgren was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and raised in central Iowa. He has worked as a professional artist for 10 years and as a full-time artist for the last six. His work has been shown across the United States and as far as London, Australia, Canada, and Brazil. There is a certain visual vibrancy that is consistently seen in his work, be it with color or content. Art is an idea, a way to present a statement to the universe and shout as loud as you can.
Nicole James
Nicole James spends her time chasing her four boys and their chickens, and teaching art classes at the Des Moines Art Center, at the After School Program, her boys school, and various other places around town. She also enjoys creating mosaics, building piñatas, painting large paintings and experimenting with printmaking.
Rahele Jomepour
Rahele Jomepour is an illustrator. She was featured as one of the illustrators selected for the 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide (Lurzer’s Special Archive) in 2010. Her illustrations have appeared in books and magazines in Iran and Portugal. She currently lives in Ames, Iowa where she is completing an MFA in Integrated Visual Arts at Iowa State University.
Carrie Latovic
Carrie is an artist working and living out of Des Moines, IA. She has a BFA in graphic design and visual art for Grand View University. She works with a four color process using acrylic paint on canvas and wood. Carrie specializes in portraits, vintage motorcycles, cars and scooters. Her colors lend a vintage feel to all of her work. She has shown work at many solo shows in town, group shows and sold here work at market days through the city.
Jennifer Boes
Jennifer currently lives in Des Moines, Iowa, her hometown. She's a painter, maker, and all around creative. Jennifer doesn't want to be categorized or labeled. She just wants to make pretty things all day. You can find her, most days, in her studio either painting, sewing, cutting and gluing, stitching or drawing.
Jennifer Mitchard
Jennifer Mitchard is an artist, photographer, graphic designer, and writer, living and working in Des Moines, IA. She studied Art and Writing in Central Iowa and Northern California, and has shown her work internationally
Senid Tabakovic
Born in Bosnia and Herzegovina then lived in Germany and Croatia before moving to the US in 1998. He currently lives in Des Moines, IA and was part of the Des Moines Arts Festival two times and is now represented by Moberg Gallery where he showcases his work. His art is contemporary with influences from American culture and universal signs.
